Here we are - well into the magic that is known as December. And while I know 2020 has been a heavy one, I have and continue to seek the light because there is so much goodness if you are open to receiving it. Key word: open!

I am still full of hope and I am genuinely excited for 2021. It can only go up from here. Even though that pesky pandemic hasn’t left the building, I refuse to let it steal the thunder of my December. This is my kiddos’ favorite month of the year and righteously so!

Here are 5 things I am doing this month to embrace the magic of the holiday season:

  1. I disconnect from work earlier. December is a bit quieter on the new business front because budgets and prospecting take place in October/November. Now we wait. Instead of staring at my inbox, I cut out of work a wee bit earlier and do things with my family that I normally couldn’t. We cook, we take holiday light walks in our neighborhood, we work out earlier, etc. If you know me, you know I absolutely reconnect to my inbox when my kids go down for bed but for now…I am embracing the slowness.

  2. I cook + bake a LOT more! I mentioned this in bullet #1 but we make this a family event. My kids can whip up so many things now. We are testing all sorts of recipes and new ingredients giving old recipes a modern, healthier spin. It’s relaxing and educational.

  3. I go to bed so much earlier. There are so many reasons why but I assure you none of them have to do with age. Honestly, I just feel better and I have all the good energy the following day. My most productive time is before noon. I am taking advantage of that.

  4. I encourage all the Christmas movie marathons and fort making. I used to kill myself to come up with family activities every weekend. Especially when the pandemic started…that was until the restrictions became so strong that we had no choice but to get creative. Last Sunday we baked cookies and made forts. My youngest told me that was her best day this year!

  5. We embrace the clichés. Plaid pajamas - check! Advent calendars - check! Hot cocoa - check! Elf on a Shelf - check! We only have so long until the kids view this time of year through a different lens. I know time is passing quickly hence 2020 has been a reminder to slow down and relish the tiny moments with my family.
