My family tree.
I've always known my roots were Polish but I never knew much beyond that. And that worked for many, many years. When all of these DNA kits launched, I'll admit. I wasn't that interested. My fair skin and blonde hair pointed me in the direction of Eastern European and Scandinavian. Done. Enough said.
When MyHeritage DNA approached me for a potential collaboration, I'll admit that my interest had picqued. I was curious how this all went down. A simple swab of a q-tip in my mouth and suddenly my entire family tree would unfold? Seemed to good to be true. Why not?
Above you see my results. This dainty kit housed two swabs that I completed and packaged in the test tubes provided with a self addressed, bubble wrap package. Easy peasy. Now I just had to wait three short <lonnggggg> weeks to find out the results.
Well, I learned something! My results above indicate that my parents were indeed, correct about most of my heritage but there were some surprises in there, too! For example, who knew I had a little Finnish or Ashkenazi Jewish in me? The results became downright fascinating. So much so that my husband got a little jealous and wanted a kit of his own. <we are currently awaiting his results, too>
The cool thing about this particular brand is how the results are delivered to you. A simple link from an email unravels your designated code and a webpage dedicated to you! The animated, spinning globe will show you which regions of the world you are from and then zoom in to get more granular. It's super cool! And, I am so glad I did it because it was a learning experience for my girlies, too.
