Independence Day Love.
Morning dolls! Checking out for the weekend + gettin' my 4th of July prep on. Here's to a sunny Independence Day filled with lots of BBQ, sparklers and good tunes. See you on Monday. Be safe!
July was a really challenging month that tested my patience in every sense of the word. Every day I woke up to a fire that I needed to put out and I began to wonder if it was me. Literally. Ever have those weeks? Months? Well, for me…it was happening and all I could do was drink a glass of wine or three every night to relax. Definitely not the healthiest decision but hey…we all have our moments.
I needed a moment. I didn’t have an ounce of time to be creative last week. Head down, business was the name of the game and this weekend I took a much needed deep breath. Needed.
Life is intricate and one dress does not fit all occasions. That was a major life lesson for me over the years. Some are flirty and some are for business. This is my “get down to business dress.” I found it at Vici, no longer available, but I’ve linked some fun alternatives if you like the cut and style. Regardless, if you like their price points, they have a myriad of lace options that are perfect for summer. Most of their clothes fit TTS for me which seems to be the consensus with most bloggers.
Summer speeds up and slows down all at the same time for me. Yes, there are endless activities, parties and sleepovers but I wouldn’t have it any other way. The “slow” usually hits right around July; specifically on the weekends. Lazy backyard BBQs, bike riding and a heavy dose of strolling. And when I say strolling…I really mean strolling. One of our favorite Saturday activities is to plan an event and a city lunch. This is where the strolling comes in. Walking the neighborhoods at our own pace is probably my single, most favorite pastime.
If there’s one holiday I am fully supportive of coordinating outfits for - it’s the Fourth of July. Hands down. Every year I snag red, white and blue outfits from Target for the girls because they ride bikes in our hometown parade. <super Normal Rockwell, I know> And, undoubtedly, the temps are near 100+ so cool, comfortable pieces are the name of the game. Bonus points if they transition from day to evening with added layers for the firework show.
If I am going to add a print anywhere in the wardrobe mix, it’s undoubtedly going to be cheetah. A little bit sassy and a whole lotta fun. This is my ideal summer night outfit, too. A simple, well made tank with a flouncy skirt. Add a denim jacket for layered warmth and you’re good to go.
After our March trip across the pond, I became passionate about some of the new labels I stumbled upon. Conditions Apply was one of them; also carried at Anthropologie. Known for their whimsical prints and strong use of color, it was just the brand my closet needed to take a break from my uniform B&W routine. And while you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, I can vow that the two pieces I now own will become permanent fixtures in my closet.
We are at the point in the summer, although it hasn’t “officially hit” where the basics become the wardrobe staples that we reach for each and every morning.. A solid pair of cut offs, the most perfectly worn in sandals, light knits, denim jackets and more. Toss in some air-dry hair and you are really speaking my language. This is essentially my summer playlist.
Fashion should be fun. I’ve been so uninspired lately. I have to tell you. Casual items - my wish list is long. Dressier options - not so much.
Meet my girl, Zandra. She’s the latest addition to the Rockport Summer Collection and she is just perfect. She mixes well with frocks just as well as she does with cutoffs and tees. She does well with any crowd. She pounds the pavement with ease in the concrete jungle just as seamlessly as she does on suburban soccer fields. Currently my MVP for the Summer!
