Chicago in the Summer.

Everyone should take a weekend to be a tourist in their own city. We often take our backyards for granted and it's something I realize I am guilty of every summer. Taking in the sites and sounds of even the most heavily trafficked destinations has always helped me uncover little gems and hidden nooks all over Chicago.

You may recall that last week my husband and I celebrated our five year anniversary. We're in total agreement that this was our best year yet and to celebrate we boarded the Odyssey in Chicago right off the infamous Navy Pier for a champagne dinner complete with fireworks. It was just what the doctor ordered.

The newly renovated Odyssey cruise ship pulled out all the bells and whistles. From a brand new rooftop viewing deck with cozy couches and lounge chairs to a sophisticated menu and wine list. And let's be honest the views of our Windy City are unbeatable on a clear night. 

I fall in love with Chicago year after year for that phenomenal skyline.

You just can't beat cotton candy skies, twinkling lights and a warm breeze further justifying exactly why we brave out those oh-so-cold winters.

Obligatory anniversary photo ensued but we were in good company...everyone was pointing and clicking!

About that food! I enjoyed the chicken glazed with apricots and roasted veggies. ....and almost licked the plate clean while my husband savored the braised short ribs. We enjoyed a preliminary champagne cocktail, a shrimp cocktail appetizer and many-a-glass of pinot noir. Duty called!

Outside from the excellent food, the icing on our meal was the special dessert they personalized for us. It was so thoughtful which is another hallmark of the amazing waitstaff and attention to detail. Warmed my little heart!

Meeting Kelly for the first time (probably about five years ago) was like inhaling a giant ray of sunlight. Immediately warm and welcoming.
