2020 has been a constant state of questioning my existence. With all this remnant time, I’ve been pondering my unique value proposition, what my personal brand identity is about which, in turn, takes me down an entirely new rabbit hole: owning my flaws. I’ve come to the conclusion that you cannot possibly bring value to the table if you aren’t accepting the parts of yourself that need work and owning all your flaws. We’ve got to find a way to stop beating ourselves up and instead, start celebrating what makes us unique.

New concept? No. Easier said than done? Absolutely!

I’ll make this short and sweet. As I unpack my own shit, here are five questions and declarations I make to myself almost daily to stay true to my purpose. Try it! I’d love to see what you think and if it works for you.

  1. Is this a flaw or my very own superpower? In other words, will admitting and showing this part of my personality, way of thinking or body allow another person to feel more normal about their own challenges?

  2. Am I living what I write and post? This could be acts of kindness or it could even mean appreciating your body not just on social media but in front of your children. All steps in the healing process.

  3. Am I presenting an idea with my personal spin on it or am I imitating someone else’s idea? A concept is no good unless it’s your own.

  4. Am I giving myself the boundaries and mental space to create authentically? This is a big one. Do you put your phone or computer down to reset? It’s important!

  5. Am I uncomfortable? If the answer is yes, you are doing it right!

I only know what I know but this much I have learned in a very short time. What’s been working for you this year?
