10 Black + White Halloween Decorating Ideas
Tonight marks the first full moon of September on the cusp of Autumn equinox. Fitting isn’t it? In fact, they call it a harvest moon. Naturally I took all the preparation this weekend by decorating the house for none other than, HALLOWEEN! This also led me down a dark dark rabbit hole, which usually involves some cyber shopping. As a result, today I bring you 10 of the best black and white halloween decorating ideas!
Indeed, I am a Halloween fanatic. Let your freak flags wave I say! I love this holiday more than Christmas; even Reese’s peanut butter cups! But, let’s be honest, Fall in Chicagoland is just the best, period. And because this is such a busy season for our family between soccer, ice skating and theater….we opt to decorate our house in full force the minute we can turn the calendar page over to September.
Now, I have learned over the years that practice makes perfect. Every year I collect new Halloween pieces but I also retire and donate the pieces that are old or do not fit into our aesthetic. Let me clarify, I’ve decided for our family that our aesthetic is black and white EVERYTHING. They absolutely have no say in the matter. And, as luck would have it, black and white Halloween decor is so incredibly easy to find. Black and white decor accents, in general, can be obtained at Amazon, Walmart, Crate and Barrel, Z Gallerie, Kirklands, Target, Michael’s and Home Goods. The true cohesion comes in when you pick your color palette and stick with it no matter what. You can collect black and white home accent pieces from all over; it doesn’t matter because when you fold them all together, it just works! That’s the beauty of having a strategic plan.
The best part? My kids look forward to decorating the house every year. It’s an event. I might add that it’s even better this year because we painted our fireplace white which was a game changer. Now our black and white knick knacks really stand out. Decorating a mantle is perhaps my favorite part!
Without further ado, take a peek at my 2021 Halloween accents and get your shop on early. These pieces sell out quickly so don’t sit on them. Black and white FTW!
It’s time to come out of hibernation. While January has been cold and gray, I’ve uncovered an amazing, suburban exhibition that is worth leaving the house for…and it’s only here through the end of March 2024. You must get tickets to the Downton Abbey Exhibition located at Old Orchard Mall in Skokie. It’s open weekly from Wednesday-Sunday.
