Ready to burn some calories? Me, too! Let's learn a little bit more about Michelle and her entrepreneurial journey. Meet you at the gym!
Tell us a little about your brand and its mission. How did you develop the idea?
Precision Human Performance, LLC was developed in 2010 as a place for ANYONE to come and build a better body. Whether an elite level athlete training for a sport, someone new to fitness with weight loss goals, or someone looking to rehabilitate or prevent an injury, PHP is founded on the philosophy to Train Smart! Not only is every PHP fitness professional highly educated with multiple certifications and degrees, but the style of training provided guarantee’s a safe, and highly effective method offering lifelong benefits. The Hub for Fitness Professional Education was a parallel goal that has now transformed into BioAcademics, a successful live and virtual education curriculum with over 55 courses currently being offered.
1. What was the moment you knew you wanted to be an entrepreneur let alone in the fitness/exercise industry?
Since I was five years old and able to help my dad out in his restaurants. I knew then that I wanted to be my own boss!
2. What was the most difficult moment in launching your brand? How did you get through it?
The entire process of starting a small business is not the most desirable, from generating capital to finding trustworthy, quality individuals that will represent the brand with pride can be a difficult task. Thankfully, my business partner, Johnny Cooke, offered sound advice and guidance offering support and driving us to the pace we are now.
3. How would you describe a typical day? What's your morning to evening routine?
I wake up at 4am in order to get myself and my meals prepared for the day, feed my fluffy crew of animals and take off for work to my 5am clients. I train clients anywhere from 5 to 14 sessions/day. The less heavy client days are filled with administrative work for PHP including independent contractor management, employee management, membership development and retention, BioAcademics promotion and development, PR and partner meetings, and generating new methods to grow and build our current business. I make it a priority to schedule in an hour workout every day, either lifting or cardiovascular exercise. Oh – and I happen to be at the end of my graduate program at A.T. Still University where I am working on getting an MS in Kinesiology. Then I finally get to go home to my wife, have a nice dinner, watch some mindless television (Housewives of somewhere), go to sleep and get ready to do it all the next day.
4. What’s one thing you learned about yourself in becoming an entrepreneur?
I have to learn to delegate and let go of some things that others are able to help complete. Living with the philosophy that nothing gets done right unless you do it yourself is not the best way to avoid ulcers ☺
5. What individuals, tastemakers, celebrities, entrepreneurs, public figures inspire you?
Everyone in my immediate family – they are the fuel that keeps my striving to be better! Rachelle DeBehnke – she is sanity and my reminder that no matter how much life keeps kicking your ass, just get right back up and kick it harder! Any female entrepreneur who is real in what they do and true to who they are, has my utmost respect and are a true inspiration. Lady Gaga, Serena Williams, Iris Kyle, and Diane Von Furstenberg are only a few of the women that represent the strength and infectious desire for greatness that I aspire to represent.
6. If you weren't in the fitness industry...and could be anything else...what would it be?
Born in the restaurant business, a restaurant owner! Otherwise, if I had to start today – an oncologist!
7. What's on your Spotify?
Ha. Anything from Stevie Wonder to Lady Gaga to 2 Pac.
8. What’s your vice? Everyone has one...wine, chocolate, This is Us?
Corn tortilla chips! I don’t even need anything to dip them in, just give me the bag and I will eat every last one!
9. Wine or classic cocktail?
Wine definitely – red!
10. What’s the best career advice you ever received?
Funny, because it wasn’t advice directly related to work, but driving, and I have used it in every aspect of life. My dad was teaching me how to drive and I was concerned with all the things happening around me. He said, just look straight ahead and focus on what is in front of you! That phrase has never left my mind to this day.
11. 5 must-have apps that you need in your life to function?
Starbucks, Evernote, Spotify, Buddhify, SoulCycle
12. Bonus question - What's next for Precision Human Performance/Michelle Amore OR do you have something new in the works?
Without giving our secrets away, we have some innovative, state-of-the-art processes for client intake and tracking procedures in the works as well as the 2018 launch of our 60 course BioAcademics program.
