Predictable plaid {pants}.
Plaid for the holidays? Groundbreaking. (said no one ever!) This classic pattern is about as predictable as florals are for the spring. However, this winter you can take three easy steps to transform your look and take it from preppy to posh. Whether you’re a gal who best believes in sticking to her basics, or mixing and matching patterns, there are plenty of ways to pair plaid with things you already have in your closet.
Tip #1- Pattern Play.
Who said you have to limit yourself to one pattern only? The more, the merrier. A recent trend is inspiring fashionistas everywhere to be a little bolder by incorporating more than one pattern/print to break up a simple outfit. Layer with a contrasting t-shirt under a flannel (like below), to play it up and make it a little unexpected.
Tip #2- Mad for Monochromatic.
Currently on trend: using monochromatic tones in your outfit. Just because you’re wearing plaid doesn’t mean you HAVE to break up an outfit with a lighter or darker color for contrast. Sometimes, keeping it simple and adding interesting structure can spice up an outfit that uses the same colors and hues. Next time, pair your plaid dress with a plaid coat, and try to stay along the same color scheme and pattern for a “perfectly put-together” look.
Tip #3- Be Bold(er).
Bring on the sparkles, glitter, glam, etc. This is your time to shine and accessorize! We often associate plaid as a pattern that is bold enough as is, but it doesn’t mean it has to stand alone. Transition your look from day to night by throwing on a bold belt, big earrings, or a sparkly heel. Elevate your look with simple jewelry or statement pieces to make it a little more fun and festive.
At the end of the day, if you feel confident in your own skin, you can feel confident in anything you put on. Be bold. Be brazen. That’s your goal for 2020.
