Letter to my Daughter

Dear Daughter:
Lots to discuss! I am counting down the days until you make your appearance. All things considered, the road was pretty smooth. You didn't give me heartburn. I never got morning sickness. You never gave me back pain. And hey...they say girls suck the beauty from you. This may be true but you never gave me unwanted skin problems either. So thanks...you make this whole pregnancy thing quite pleasant. For the record, I'd do it again. {I say that now...we'll see what you put me through in the delivery room}

You know your dad and I, we were really excited about you from the get-go. Actually, he was meant to be a dad...you'll see. I think you guys will have a lot of fun together. He's the kind of dad who will build things with you and take you to your first rock concert. He's big on music so you can count on appreciating it and hearing lots of different kinds in our house. {some I don't like...sounds like screaming...but that Wilco and LCD Soundsystem...I think he's onto something} Me...I am pretty run-of-the-mill. I've learned to really like a lot of his stuff but I still sneak in some hip hop and JT if you know what I'm sayin'.

Your grandparents, they are a lot of FUN, too. And you've got some really great uncles and aunts, too. They know what they're doing; much more than I do so please excuse some of the mistakes I make along the way. You are the 6th grandchild on dad's side and the 1st on my side. Needless to say, you will be spoiled rotten, I assure you. In fact, Grandma P has been putting together your nursery since 1978...kidding...sorta. And Grandma G has lots of love to share. You'd think she'd almost be out but that lady has some spunk. Grandpa P will probably make you watch the White Sox and come to our aid when you have math homework because I strongly dislike it. Grandpa G will teach you how to fish, camp and he will most definitely bring you a gift everytime he sees you. He's good like that.

And then there's me. Well, I've pretty much hoped, prayed, prayed some more and wished for you for almost 5{ish} years so when my test read "PREGNANT" I was in disbelief; so much so that I took 6 more tests! I found out about you the day before Halloween. I was pretty worried about you until I got past the first trimester so I'm super glad you were healthy and decided to make it for the long haul.

As for promises, I can truthfully tell you I haven't a clue at what I am doing but I promise to try really hard. And like I said, I am bound to make mistakes but not the kind where I drive around with you in my lap ala Britney. {that was a bad year for her...I'll tell you more about it later} I am fairly certain we are going to have a lot of fun. I won't make you wear a ton of pink but I'd be appreciative if you'd give ballet a shot. Soccer's pretty cool, too. I won't make you take the piano because I thought it was kinda boring. And you can choose what you want to wear to school everyday. Personally, I'd love to see what you put together and be confident that you will have a wide array of shoes to choose from.

Most important, you should know that no one's going to love you more than I/we do. I'll probably tell you that 100x's a day. Even when you're a teenager. In fact, out of the 101 things I write about on this blog, you have the top slot and I've never even laid eyes on you.

We can't wait to meet you. Hurry up!

xoxo,
Mom
