The working mom struggle.

The hardest part about being a working mom is wondering if the occasional sick days will affect my company winning a piece of new business. It’s not about missing tiny moments because as a society, we have all come to the conclusion that we aren’t missing anything anymore. We are leaning in hard to quality over quantity and that philosophy has helped me nurture relationships with both of my children now more than ever. Thirty minutes of raw, unedited conversation with my third grader is 100% more valuable than ten minutes of distracted play. Trust me…I’ve been there enough to know.

September really tested my endurance. On a professional level, we experienced a whole lot of change and while we navigated it all with grace, thanks to a rock solid team and tremendous problem solving skills, it left me really exhausted and unmotivated. September took the wind out of my sails and I did not feel like myself for over a month and a half.

An update.

It’s been two weeks since I’ve written a blog post. That, to me, is unsettling. It’s also a really good indication that I’ve either been in the weeds at work or have hit a wall, creatively speaking. Well, the answer is a bit of both. I don’t think people realize how challenging it is to be creative at the drop of a hat and to run a side hustle on top of a FT hustle. It. isn’t. easy. In fact, I have found myself a little crabby these past two weeks because I needed that outlet. I needed to pour myself into something that didn’t have any rules. <i.e. my blog!>

We were set up on a blind friend date by another mutual friend and no one was there but Tami. I did not know what she looked like or who she was but there was a blonde sitting at the bar. I just had a feeling. I walked up to her, stuck out my hand and said, "Hi, I’m Johanna.” When she turned to look, it was immediate warmth and we just started talking…like we had known each other for eons.

Solopreneur. Mompreneur. Entrepreneur. They all point to the same title but what does it mean for you as you contemplate this roller coaster of a journey?
